Is this the "final" forum or are we going to move to a "real" forum later on? I really wouldnt mind having a vBulletin forum layout.

There are planks of wood that have taken an interest in Animal Collective?

I too prefer the old layout. I am unsure if this is the final locale or not. We'll just have to see what happens. Regardless we are in transition phase right now so we're going to take this one step at a time. Right now I am working with only free proboards features, but maybe down the road if this grows into something more we can work out a way to upgrade things and make them nice (only where necessary. I don't think we need a "live chat" upgrade or anything silly like that)

Ethan, If you can get a free Vbulletin layout, would this hosting company let you use it?

Ethan, If you can get a free Vbulletin layout, would this hosting company let you use it? I'm not sure. I chose Proboards because its the second easiest I've used and they host your content regardless. It's all sort of a package deal (and all free!). I'll look at Vbulletin and see if they have anything similar, but at the moment I have no ability to purchase hosting and that would require a group effort.

Could you explain what would be different on a Vbulletin board?

Could you explain what would be different on a Vbulletin board? just a different layout with a couple of different features. Mostly it comes down to personal preference, and most people here prefer vBulletin because that is what they are used to (myself included).

Also vbulletin has many little tweaks that can be applied to make life easier.

is there a desire for something more?
if people are fine here then there is no need to get up and transplant everybody.
if there is a desire for something more official and permanent, then something can of course be worked out. it's only about 10$ to register a domain these days. it's not much to host it, i dont think hosting it on a consumer server would be a problem since we wouldn't have the "mass exposure" of being linked to sweetadeline website anymore. it would be 3$ more a month to me to add multiple domains and increase bandwidth/storage onto what i have. so yearly the cost would be about 46$ extra to add it. i have no idea how able or other people are or what resources they have available to them as other options.
the question really comes around, though, are we gonna want to keep this going? is it worth setting up something private and dedicated to create a wholly-owned community for ourselves? i think if we do want to break off into our own, and give it a try, then we can set up something official for a year and try to get that hooked up to the official website again. this way we continue with the flow of new members. after a year we could have a sort of review. if it's going well, then we'll keep it. if it's sputtering, then we'll just make a decision from there.

also, hosting ourselves gives us the possibility of hosting files for people. such as the sweetaddy cover compilation... that's a community thing, so the community could host it...

Another question, who owns the sweetaddy.com domain name? Can we get it to redirect to here?

Another question, who owns the sweetaddy.com domain name? Can we get it to redirect to here? I'm almost positive it is Charlie. I haven't spoken to Charlie and probably won't do so until he irons things out with Aaron (which is happening right now)
