what if someone with a server simply set up vBulletin with the same version aaron has running and then transfer the data over as if they were moving the forum to a new server (i.e. the old one died, etc.)

but that would transfer over all the shit, too

Better to transfer the shit then to lose everything

yeah. we might have to lose picture threads and such, due to their massiveness but even so, the vast majority could easily come out untouched and still have links and quotes and all those niceties

Save as many threads as possible that are worthwhile. Also my stickied thread from the Larry Crane, and the Larry Crane thread itself.

How do we save threads? There is a really old one from 2005 that Tiah started called The Lisa thread or something and it would mean a lot to me if it could be saved.
BTW EVERYONE, someone is posting here as Postively4thst and its not me, I just joined now and I dont know why someone is pretending to be me but its pretty creepy. Ethan any way you can look into that?
My name was 'positively4thstreet' so nice try whoever you are but you didn't do it right.

Heh. Before I even saw this thread I PM'd Aaron asking for an SQL dump to do exactly what was proposed here. Plop it in a vbullitin install somewhere and pump out a bunch of static HTML to keep the good stuff alive.

I've just been changing them to the printable view on the 'Thread Tools' button and then copying and pasting the text into a word doc for now

YEah that is a great idea and i hope it happens, also hopefully whatever board ends up sticking will be able to be linked from sweetadeline.com like the other one was. that was how i found the board in the first place, I assume the same can be said for most of the posters.

I will assist in this.
I have a lot of bandwidth/storage space on a host for the time being.
I don't know how needed it would be, but it is available. I was particularly going to go through the elliott history parts of the memorial forum and archive each page into pictures. this way, when viewing the picture, you can just scroll down and read it and see everything in it's original state. (original after the board crash, that is.)

I'm going to try this. As long as it is under 200 gigs.

I'm going to try this. As long as it is under 200 gigs. ASSUMING SOMEONE ELSE DOESNT HAVE A SERVER and isn't already planning to do this, I'll probably do it anyway to have another mirror of it for a while.---------------------> If it works, I'll archive every thread that I can and host it for a while. This way, people can browse as necessary. Also, there are a lot of people that aren't here. It would be nice to still have it available for a while to give time for the rare posters to come around, which is why I was going to host it (with that program, it is all self-contained and you can browse it just like browing the forum). If there are specific threads you'd like to get put in the giant sweet-addy mirror then you can email me the link to the thread and I'll make sure to cover those entirely. consisting@gmail.com

I'll stop talking to myself now. I'm sorry, I pulled an all-nighter last night and had school all day today. I'm really kind of out of it. I was going to go to bed now, but I'll do what I can to help until I physically can't stay awake. 3 days is not very long.

I'm new here. It doesn't look like any of the ES board has been deleted. If you use the forum jump everything is available. How exactly can we copy the memorial board? That's the one I'm most interested in preserving.

Im not sure if I am creating a mirror of the ENTIRE BLAMONET CONGLOMERATE or only forum #5 (http://www.blamonet.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=5). has anyone use HTTrack before?

I have asked Aaron for a dump of the SQL tables from the ES boards. If he provides them I can port the posts over to whichever system everyone lands on.
I also have unlimited bandwidth and server space should the need arise.

not if, say, proboards sets up their tables differently than vbulletin does, though, right? have you done this before? how do you know that it'll be the same structure?

Even if the tables are different, its very likely I could port them. I have done it before. They don't need to be the same structure.
Obviously, getting the tables and starting another vbulletin from the old tables would be ideal.

If I give him a list of the thread ids, or all the thread and post ids can he output just those to plain text?
The problem here is that the db info is different than the posts displayed. The raw data would allow the community to move on while retaining everything.
Please let him know I am happy to provide the thread ids and post ids lists, as well as a script to pull them from the db. I can code it in whichever language he prefers (its less than 10 lines of code in a foreach loop).

well, my first goal is to atleast get the memorial forum in a mirror form and put it up. at least there is 1 gauranteed location to access/read it at this moment. i dont know what the intentions of others are or their abilities. i'm not going to wait to see what happens with the database to make a move. that would be very cool if we could get the database but i think it's kind of good for the community to start new.
