YES- someone must save the Elliott Sandwich Thread!
Oh- and I think Aaron saying he wants to free up more space for the rest of Blamo is crap. We were by far the biggest forum there, barely anyone posts in the rest of it. They don't need more space, I think he just wants to erase the remnants of something he's upset about.

For some reason, the boards are reopened right now. I don't know what this means. Maybe it's just temporary? But definitely back up as much as you can right now, since there's a perfect window of opportunity.

I'd love to know whats going on now. Sweetaddy 1.0 is up and usable again. Three possible reasons imo: 1) The server was getting the shit hammered out of it as many people started downloading everything all at once in a panicked frenzy, so it was turned back on in the hopes of getting that to end. I hope Aaron doesn't pay for bandwidth, or his bill is going to be very high this month 2) Aaron saw just how significant the traffic drop was due to the ES boards being frozen and realized future ad revenue would be $0, so it was turned back on for $$$. I hope this isn't the reason why. 3) "Psyche! J/K! Now chill the f out peoples or I'll REALLY take your board away." or "Oh shit! They went and started their own board in one day?!?!?." I'd rather post here if these are the reasons, because that isn't very nice (although vbulletin is a better interface...must...not...cave...in...).

Aaron just posted this though...interesting
'i'm contemplating new ways of doing things. i've had a few members ask me to just reopen the board to post and we'll still have the drop dead date of october 1st for now.
and for all the conspiracy theory people out there, this doesn't have anything to do with money/advertising, this is my hobby, so I just try to cover my expenses as much as possible. if I really wanted to rack in the money I'd have pop-up ads and what not through-out the site, it's never been about the money. and i'm insulted that many of you think that.'

I few things to consider...
1. We should start making a list of what threads people have already saved.
2. Maybe we could start an "Archive" subsection on this board specifically for the purpose of copying over information from Sweetaddy 1.0 threads.

what about that wiki that people were working on - some information from sweetaddy can be archived there.

this is probably something that could be easily automated---then you could rummage through the totality of it later

this is probably something that could be easily automated---then you could rummage through the totality of it later i personally cannot find a way to mirror specifically only sweetaddy as there are so many interface links that lead back to the whole blamo. i can't specifically only include sweetaddy threads because everything on blamo is in one giant heap. i have to "include" certain links so that it can follow through multiple page links but then i'd have to "exclude" those same links to keep it specifically on that single thread. which is why i decided to just back up the archive.

I actually started to archive the forum earlier, even though I think it's useless and trying to find topics about Elliott is like swimming in a sea of shit. Anyway, the only clean and fast way to archive the forum was to download the Archive version. Sweet AddyElliott Smith Memorial ForumAsk Charlie a Question?

Sweet AddyElliott Smith Memorial ForumAsk Charlie a Question?yeah. i did the same. it just finished. i was going to mirror the archive of ask charlie a question, also. edit: it's not useless. easy to add a search box to search that forum. it's how people mostly dug up other old threads, i think, anyway. if you're looking for something, then you have an idea what to search for. if you're not looking for something, well.. browsing is browsing. the threads are in a nice chronological order of the date they were started.

Oh, no, I'm saying the forum itself is useless. Not the archived version.

Oh, no, I'm saying the forum itself is useless. Not the archived version. The forum itself is quite usable in the hands of someone more capable, which it is in now, as far as backing up/archiving. If anybody is trying to make their own mirror of the site, I do ask that you pause that. We don't need multiple people doing the same thing and sucking up mass bandwidth. The forum will be preserved in the state that it is in, in case something does happen, and will be made accessible to everyone for their own personal reasons of finding what is important to them. This will allow people to browse the board just the same as logging on to the website to view it. In the mean time, we do have all the information on the board so a massive snatch-and-grab effort is not necessary.

What are you talking about? I'm not saying anything about the archiving process. I'm saying those subforums are filled with so much garbage that you might as well rebrand it as off topic section. It's hardly an Elliott Smith subforum. Hence "I think it's useless and trying to find topics about Elliott is like swimming in a sea of shit."

Sorry, it was surrounded by talk of archiving so I thought you were talking about archiving the main board. When you tried to clarify, well, there's two "versions" of the board, the one we see when we browse from blamonet, and then the one in the separate archive that you cant post in or anything. I thought you were differentiating between the blamonet archive version and the web version that we browse when posting.
